The 58,000-hectare Liwonde National Park is the country's premier wildlife reserve. Liwonde incorporates the scenic Shire River as well as its quiet backwaters and lagoons, marshes, open savanna country, woodland and hills in the interior of the Park. As a result of the wide variety of habitats, there is a great diversity of plant, animal and birdlife. The birdlife is outstanding – possibly the best birding location in central and southern Africa. The record sightings for a two-night stay is 266 different species.

The main dining room/pub/lounge area is raised under thatch overlooking the Shire River where Elephants, Hippos and Crocodiles are often to be viewed. Enjoy meals on the deck or under thatch and relax at the pool in between activities.

Mvuu is the only lodge in the park and the highlight offered is boat trips in stable handmade wooden boats along the Shire River. There are a variety of game activities, including an exploration of the Shire River and lagoons - an excellent opportunity for sightings of elephants, hippo, crocodile and bird life. Elephant and Sable antelope occur in large numbers, as do Impala and Waterbuck. Lion, Leopard, Serval and the rare oribi may occasionally be seen. Black Rhino, Zebra, Lichtenstein's Hartebeest and Buffalo have all been introduced.

Discreetly tucked away in thick riverine vegetation, each tent has its own private view of the palm-fringed lagoon. The five spacious tented rooms offer en suite facilities. One of the rooms is a unique canvas, stone and thatch honeymoon suite.
