Rocktail Camp

Place: Rocktail is set within the lush coastal forest, the beach a brisk 20-minute walk away and Maputaland Marine Reserve just offshore. Ocean Safaris, snorkelling and diving reveal underwater wonders, while walks and excursions to Lake Sibaya and the local community explore the land. In summer, guests join guides on a Turtle Drive for a chance to see leatherback or loggerhead turtles nesting, or tiny hatchlings scrambling down to the sea – both once-in-a-lifetime spectacles.

Accommodation: Rocktail has 14 airy en-suite guest tents, of which four are family units – comprising a shared bathroom and two bedrooms – and one is a honeymoon suite. The main area includes a wrap-around veranda, large pool and children’s playroom.

Purpose: Rocktail is one of the first joint ventures in South Africa between ecotourism (Wilderness Safaris), community (the surrounding Mqobela and Mpukane communities) and a conservation authority (iSimangaliso Wetland Park). Our non-profit organisation, Children in the Wilderness, runs Eco-Clubs, training programmes and other community initiatives here.
