Nestled beneath a great whaleback granite rock, typical of magical Matobo Hills, Rowallan Tented Camp is the only private camp inside Matopos National Park.  Just 30 minutes drive from Bulawayo, and 2km from the boom gate, Rowallan is accessible in a standard sedan, easy to access and provides a tranquil, all-African escape - a welcome haven for families with children, adventure enthusiasts, photographers and anyone looking to unwind and relax in stunning scenery and a timeless bush surrounds.

 

The camp is simple but comfortable, with the focus on engaging guests in the bush environment and rich African reward. We encourage guests to leave convention behind, and enjoy the luxury of dinner under the stars, the invigorating fresh air, engage those senses, and stretch those legs out in the open! Off the grid and tented, Rowallan is a great place to stay for eco-conscious guests. Facilities include ambient paraffin and LED lighting, fully catered kitchen facility, dining area (tented) and 9 tented rooms with en-suite bathrooms (flush toilets and hot water bucket showers). We also have 36 Hemingway tents for bigger groups. Camp cuisine is home-style and of a good standard - and amazingly cooked in a bush kitchen with ground oven!

 

There is a wealth of history, culture, wildlife and sporting activities to enjoy in the Matopos and we can tailor these to suit diverse focus groups, including rock climbing, horse-back safaris, cycle safaris, hiking, rhino tracking on foot, interaction with local villagers and cultural groups, bush cookery workshops, historical tours and much more.  Guests are welcome to enquire after a personalised itinerary to include fun activities to suit your interest and preference.
