Leaping into 2020 from a great Lookout...

He stood at the edge of the precipice… the Batoka Gorge opened out before him, millennia in the making – and now, in this brief moment, his greatest challenge… His stomach lurched and his breath quickened as the guide spoke to him quietly, preparing him, encouraging him to “just step forward”.

And there he goes! Leaping into the gorge, a 70-metre freefall drop, silent and wide-eyed, before swinging like a pendulum above the river, his arms and legs waving and his triumphant whoop echoing off the rocks. I watched from the comfort and safety of my table at the Lookout Café, thanking the river gods that it wasn’t me taking the plunge. Well, not today, anyway! The Gorge Swing is just one of the exciting high wire activities offered by Wild Horizons and the newly rebuilt Lookout Café the perfect vantage point from which to watch intrepid adrenalin junkies soar through the air or ride the rapids below.

It’s appropriate that one of the best locations in Victoria Falls offers an adventurous dining experience – and the recent appointment of Jonathan Baker as Wild Horizons’ new Group Food and Beverage Manager just takes the Lookout Café to new heights.

Jonathan’s 18 years’ experience includes a diverse array of highlights around the world, but his passion for fine dining in fantastic locations has remained unwavering. For now, he’s truly come home and our clients are in for a real treat. Zambezi bream, crocodile kebabs, Zimbabwe beef, veggie curry, fruity parfaits and a cheese platter are highlights of the newly designed menu. The Full Moon Dinners are especially popular and you can enjoy delicious South African wines as the sun sets and those crazy, action-packed adventurers have called it a day.
